This video will allow coaches from all over the world an opportunity to see how one of the most successful coaching staffs in the United States run their practices, fix technical mistakes, and use drills to enhance key techniques--all without leaving home.
Coach Miller and his staff go over numerous technical points throughout this DVD package, including; variations to finishing shots, multiple ways to successfully cut away on a standup, the knee slide, a breakdown of the sprawl, and numerous tips for bottom wrestling. With the coaches wired for sound throughout the practice, no interaction between coaches and athletes goes unheard.
Each practice begins with a series of warm-ups and drilling on the feet. Attention is placed on downblocking to prevent opponent's from getting in deep on shots. Other areas of focus on the feet include: How to finish a double on the mat by elevating legs and moving up the body, how to score out of a front headlock, how to prevent surrendering a takedown when you land on your hips and how to finish a takedown by maintaining contact with your opponent.
Coach Miller leads the team through a practice focused on creating movement and pressure from the bottom position. The team focuses on perfecting all the finer points of the basic techniques as they review knee slides, stand and cuts, the change over, and hand control and EXPLODING on the whistle. While the athletes are drilling the holds, the two coaches (Coach Miller and Assistant Coach Eric Keller) walk around the room and give the wrestlers skill-related feedback. Often the coaches will jump in and give the athletes the correct "feel" for the position.
Other areas of focus in these practices include:
- Crab ride defense, working on several counters to escape this dangerous position.
- Conditioning featuring live wrestling and riding air dyne bicycles.
- Avoiding mental let-ups in a match.
